Legacy Ventures is proud is to continuously support not-for-profit organisation Velokhaya or the ‘home of cycling’ in Khayelitsha, a township area on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa.
The Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy (the home of township cycling) was informally established in Cape Town in 2003. For the past decade, their programmes and their many success stories have successfully shown how increased self-esteem and confidence on the bike helps to inspire and equip young people to deal with the difficulties they face in life and help them achieve their goals, both on and off the bike. The Academy was indeed responsible for establishing South Africa’s only ‘all black’ professional cycling team!
Our latest visit with a group of executive MBAs consisted of a warm engagement with kids and staff while having the opportunity to hear about and witness the academy’s daily operations. The donations raised through Legacy Ventures to date have been used to upgrade their BMX track, purchase cycling kit and build a new website!
